HERO OF OUR NUMBER SYSTEM
It is supposed that the ultimate achievement in spirituality is the condition of nothingness. In fact, many believe that God is supposed to be nothingness.
So the concept of nothingness was deep in the psyche of Indians. The concept of nothingness was given an expression by coining a Sanskrit word called “Shunya’.
Later on the symbol “0” was introduced.

Chandra Shekhar Azad
दुश्मन की गॊलियों का हम सामना करेंगे । आज़ाद रहे हैं, अज़ाद ही रहेंगें ।
Chandra Shekhar Azad inspired his generation to enter into freedom struggle. Azad was very young when Mahatma Gandhi launched the Non – Co-operation Movement. Azad and his followers had committed themselves to absolute independence by any means. So he was the most sought after revolutionary by British police.
Chandra Shekhar Azad, a man of free spirit and indomitable courage, was born to Sitaram Tiwari and Jagrani Devi on July 23, 1906 in Alirajpur, Jhabua Dist of Madhya Pradesh His first name was Moniker Chandra Shekhar Tiwari. After a court incident, he took the name “AZAD”. He was a dedicated follower of lord hanuman.
Drawn into the national movement at a very young age he was apprehended by the British Police during his participation in the Non – Co-operation Movement at Benaras. When in the court he was asked to tell his name in front of the Magistrate, he said “AZAD”, which means “free”. Azad was sentenced to fifteen lashes. With each stroke of the whip the young Chandra Shekhar Azad shouted “BHARAT MATA KI JAI” “MAHATMA GANDHI KI JAI”.
While enjoying the fruits of freedom every Indian must remember the life and contributions of Azad.
Achivements :
Ø Involved in Kakori train robbery (1926).
Ø The attempt to blow up the viceroy’s train (1926).
Ø The shooting of Saunders at Lahore (1928).
Ø To avenge the killing of Lala Lajapath Roy, he formed Hindustan Socialist Republic Association with Bhagath singh, Sukhdev and Raj Guru.
Chandra Shekhar Azad was a great Indian freedom fighter. His fierce patriotism and courage inspired others of his generation to enter freedom struggle. He was deeply troubled by the Jallian Wala Bagh massacre in Amritsar in 1919. Azad actively participated in revolutionary activities. He vowed that he would never be arrested by the British Police and would die as free man.
Azad was a terror to British Police. He was on their hit list and the British badly wanted to capture him dead or alive. On February 27,1931 he met two of his comrades at Alfred Park Allahabad. He was betrayed by an informer who had informed the British Police. The Police surrounded the park and ORDERED Chandra Shekhar Azad to surrender. He fought alone valiantly and killed 3 policemen. But finding himself surrounded and seeing no route for escape, Azad shot himself. Thus he kept his pledge of not being caught alive.

A PAIR OF EYES
There was a blind girl who hated herself just because she's blind. She hated everyone, except her loving boyfriend. He's always there for her. She said that if she could only see the world, she would marry her.
One day, someone donated a pair of eyes to her and then she can see everything, including her boyfriend. Her boyfriend asked her, "Now that you can see the world, will you marry me?" The girl was shocked when she saw that her boyfriend is blind too, and refused to marry him.Her boyfriend walked away in tears, and later wrote a letter to her saying, “Just take care of my eyes dear.”

Why do we offer food to the Lord before eating it ?
Indians make an offering of food to the Lord and later partake of it as prasaada - a holy gift from the Lord. In our daily ritualistic worship (pooja) too we offer naivedyam (food) to the Lord.
The Lord is omnipotent and omniscient. Man is a part, while the Lord is the totality. All that we do is by His strength and knowledge alone. Hence what we receive in life as a result of our actions is really His alone. We acknowledge this through the act of offering food to Him. This is exemplified by the Hindi words "tera tujko arpan"– I offer what is Yours to You. Thereafter it is akin to His gift to us, graced by His divine touch.
Knowing this, our entire attitude to food and the act of eating changes. The food offered will naturally be pure and the best. We share what we get with others before consuming it. We do not demand, complain or criticise the quality of the food we get. We eat it with cheerful acceptance (prasaada buddhi).
Before we partake of our daily meals we first sprinkle water around the plate as an act of purification. Five morsels of food are placed on the side of the plate acknowledging the debt owed by us to the Divine forces (devta runa) for their benign grace and protection, our ancestors (pitru runa) for giving us their lineage and a family culture, the sages (rishi runa) as our religion and culture have been "realised", aintained and handed down to us by them, our fellow beings (manushya runa) who constitute society without the support of which we could not live as we do and other living beings (bhuta runa) for serving us selflessly.
Thereafter the Lord, the life force, who is also within us as the five life-giving physiological functions, is offered the food. This is done with the chant
praanaaya swaahaa, apaanaaya swaahaa, vyaanaaya swaahaa, udaanaaya swaahaa, samaanaaya swaahaa, brahmane swaahaa
After offering the food thus, it is eaten as prasaada - blessed food.

VIDYALAYA TOPPERS – UNIT TEST NO – 2
The new season of ‘testing times’ started with the Unit Test No – 2 held in the month of July 2009. The toppers among the toppers of the previous academic year proved once again that they are invincible. The entire Vidyalaya wished to see new faces in the list of Vidyalaya toppers, but given the track record of the toppers of the bygone year, this feat remains difficult though not impossible.
As always, the performance of the lower class students was praiseworthy and the students of the higher classes did not lag behind. Initial hiccups are traced in the performance of class XI students since most of the students were admitted through lateral entry. Once they come to terms with the medium of instruction, there would be substantial improvement in the overall results both in quantity and quality.
Based on the overall performance in all the subjects the following students were adjudged the “The Toppers of the toppers.”
Rank Name of the Student Class Marks [240] %
First RANJITHA. K 8 B 233 97
Second HEMACHANDER. CH 7 A 230 95.8
Third KALPANA. K 7 B 228 95
It is interesting to note that these students were the Vidyalaya toppers of almost all the Unit Tests and Term Tests. They remained the toppers of toppers in the final standing of the Academic Year 2008-09. The Vidyalaya fraternity congratulates them for their unremitting performance.

The CCA Club of the Vidyalaya conducts various competitions to bring out the innate talents of the students. Telugu Essay Writing Competition was held on 10th July and the topics of essays were PRASAARA PRACHAARA SAADHAANAALU and GRANTHAALAYAALU for seniors and juniors respectively.
Solo Song competition was conducted on 17th July and the audience was enthralled by the melodious folk, patriotic and devotional songs. Towards the end of the competition, the judges found it very difficult to decide the winners since the margin of errors was very less.
As an initiative to develop English communication skills, a “Pick and Speak” competition was conducted on 24th July. The topics given were general and informative. The competition revealed the fact that the Vidyalaya has no dearth of talent and given proper guidance the children can achieve excellence with little efforts.

NEW BEGINNING….
The Vidyalaya also witnessed the arrival of Migrated students from Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Sri Ganga Nagar District, Rajasthan State under Migration Policy that aims at inculcating the spirit of national integration among the students of JNVs. 14 boys and 05 girls landed in the morning of 3rd July after a three-day’s tiresome journey. And to everyone’s surprise, they took not more than two days to adjust themselves to the new place.
24 students were also admitted to class XI [Science Stream] against the vacant seats, and that took the class strength to 34. These students were selected based on their performance in the class X examination irrespective of their medium of instruction. The Vidyalaya offers English, Telugu, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology and Computer Science at 10+2 level and the students are allowed to select the subjects of their choice.
The Principal, Staff, Alumni, Parents and students of JNV Mahaboob Nagar extend a warm welcome to all the newly admitted students and wish them a happy stay on the JNV Campus.

THE ROAD TO SUCCESS
He is a precious product of this Vidyalaya.
A product worth billions.
Pranay is one of those rare few who live their dreams. The teachers in this Vidyalaya had traced marks of excellence in him the moment he stepped in. He was, and is, exceptionally brilliant, extremely polite and superlatively versatile. Though not seen much on the play field, he took active part in the curricular and co-curricular activities that helped him hone his skills. He was the topper of his class throughout his stay in this Vidyalaya. His pro-active attitude attracted many friends. He would spell magic on the audience with his awesome oratory. Above all, he remained a ‘decent disciple’ of his teachers.
As far as subjects, he liked Mathematics and Science. That was proved right with his scoring 100 out of 100 in Maths in class X Board Exams, a feat that no other student of this Vidyalaya has ever achieved. Till date he holds the highest percentage [95.6] among the class X Toppers. This stupendous performance fetched him “Pratibha Award” instituted by the Government of Andhra Pradesh. And that was the first feather in his cap.
After class X, he joined Narayana College, Dilsukh Nagar, Hyderabad for his Intermediate education. In no time, he was identified as the ‘top notch’ among meritorious students and was trained intensively by a team of experienced teachers. As a result, he scored 459 out of 470 in First Year and 495 out of 530 in the Second Year.
But, the moments of glory came when he secured All India 8th and 48th Ranks in IIT-JEE and AIEEE entrance exams respectively. Our joy knew no bounds when the news spread. It was a dream come true. At a tender age, Pranay has made his parents, teachers and his Alma Mater proud. When asked he said, “All that I am today is because of my parents, teachers and my friends. I owe them a lot. I cherish and treasure this moment for a long long time to come.”
And this is modesty at its best. And that’s how he is.
Three cheers to PRANAY.

Why do we not touch papers, books and people with the feet?
To Indians, knowledge is sacred and divine. So it must be given respect at all times. Nowadays we separate subjects as sacred and secular. But in ancient India every subject - academic or spiritual was considered divine and taught by the Guru in the Gurukula.
The custom of not stepping on educational tools is a frequent reminder of the high position accorded to knowledge in Indian culture. From an early age, this wisdom fosters in us a deep reverence for books and education. This is also the reason why we worship books, vehicles and instruments once a year on Saraswathi Pooja or Ayudha Pooja day, dedicated to the Goddess of Learning. In fact, each day before starting our studies, we pray:
Saraswati namasthubhyamVarade kaama roopini Vidyaarambham karishyaami Sidhirbhavatu me sadaa
O Goddess Saraswati, the giver of Boons and fulfiller of wishes, I prostrate to You before starting my studies. May you always fulfill me?

N.C.C. CAMP
The camp was formally inaugurated by the Camp Commandant Colonel. Yog Raj Pathak. In his address, Col. Y. R. Pathak detailed about the different programmes and trainings that a cadet has to undergo in a camp and the use of such camps in making a cadet competent to face the demands of the 21st century. The schedule of the camp was very rather tight and every second was thoroughly utilized. The focus was mainly on training the would-be-soldiers in the area of warfare, fire fighting, trekking, rock climbing and community service. The ‘walking tour’, as a part of trekking, was the highlight of the entire camp. We went 16 kilometers on foot to a protected forest area called as Mayuri Nursery. Some of the eminent personalities paying visit to the camp included Sri. Rajeshwar Reddy, M.L.A. of Mahaboob Nagar.
To inculcate in us the value of community service, we were taken to a ‘Home for aged’, where we met many old people, heard their stories and distributed sweets to them. On the 8th day of the camp, Colonel. Narasimham visited the camp to oversee the progress. In the cultural evening organized on the same evening, he distributed the prizes to winners and lauded our performance. On the final day, a small get-together was organized and all the participants were given the participation certificates. We bid adieu to each other with a hope to meet in the next camp.

LIFE IS A GIFT
Today before you think of saying an unkind word - Think of someone who can't speak.
Before you complain about the taste of your food - Think of someone who has nothing to eat.
Before you complain about your husband or wife - Think of someone who's crying out to God for a companion.
Today before you complain about life - Think of someone who went too early to heaven.
Before you complain about your children - Think of someone who desires children but they're barren.
Before you argue about your dirty house, someone didn't clean or sweep -Think of the people who are living in the streets.
Before whining about the distance you drive - Think of someone who walks the same distance with their feet.
And when you are tired and complain about your job - Think of the unemployed, the disabled and those who wished they had your job.
But before you think of pointing the finger or condemning another - Remember that not one of us are without sin and we all answer to one maker.
And when depressing thoughts seem to get you down - Put a smile on your face and thank God you're alive and still around.Life is a gift, Live it, Enjoy it, Celebrate it, And fulfill it.

Why do we wear marks on the forehead ?
The tilak, pottu or bottu invokes a feeling of sanctity in the wearer and others. It is recognized as a religious mark. Its form and colour vary according to one’s caste, religious sect or the form of the Lord worshipped.
In earlier times, the four castes (based on varna or colour) - Brahmana, Kshatriya, Vaishya and Sudra - applied marks differently. The brahmin applied a white chandan mark signifying purity, as his profession was of a priestly or academic nature. The kshatriya applied a red kumkum mark signifying valour as he belonged to warrior races. The vaishya wore a yellow kesar or turmeric mark signifying prosperity as he was a businessman or trader devoted to creation of wealth. The sudra applied a black bhasma, kasturi or charcoal mark signifying service as he supported the work of the other three divisions. Also Vishnu worshippers apply a chandan tilak of the shape of "U", Shiva worshippers a tripundra of bhasma, Devi worshippers a red dot of kumkum and so on).
The tilak cover the spot between the eyebrows, which is the seat of memory and thinking. It is known as the Aajna Chakra in the language of Yoga. The tilak is applied with the prayer - "May I remember the Lord. May this pious feeling pervade all my activities. May I be righteous in my deeds." Even when we temporarily forget this prayerful attitude the mark on another reminds us of our resolve. The tilak is thus a blessing of the Lord and a protection against wrong tendencies and forces.
The entire body emanates energy in the form of electromagnetic waves - the forehead and the subtle spot between the eyebrows especially so. That is why worry generates heat and causes a headache. The tilak and pottu cools the forehead, protects us and prevents energy loss. Sometimes the entire forehead is covered with chandan or bhasma. Using plastic reusable "stick bindis" is not very beneficial, even though it serves the purpose of decoration.

Pillalamarri
The most important place of interest near Mahabubnagar is the famous banyan tree called Pillalamarri, which is about 8-km from the city. The famous 500 yr. old Banyan tree here, covering an area of over three acres, can accommodate about 1000 people in its shade. There is a shrine of a Muslim saint under the tree. From a distance the tree presents the appearance of a small hillock with green foliage but on reaching nearer, it looks like a large green umbrella under which about thousand people can easily take shelter. The tree is a very old one and it covers an area of 3 acres (1.21 hectares).

Toppers of the Toppers
The Annual Examinations held in the month of March 2009 heralded the end of the Academic Year 2008-09 and brought out along with them the overall academic performance of the students during the year. Despite the clashes in the local examination schedule with that of the CBSE exams, the Examination Department was thoroughly prepared and conducted the exams in a befitting manner.
As always, the performance of the lower class students was praiseworthy and the students of the higher classes did not lag behind. The entire February month was utilized for revision and practice of the mock tests. As the exams commenced the students’ confidence doubled and their performance bettered.
Each student was evaluated for 600 marks in each subject [6 Unit Tests, 6 Assignments, 2 Project Works/Orals and 2 Term Exams] and the overall total mark was 3600. Based on the overall performance in all the subjects throughout the year, the following students were adjudged as the “The Toppers of the toppers.”
Hemachander. Ch of class 6 A, with 3487 marks and with 96.9 percentage is the First among the toppers of the toppers. In the second position is Kalpana. K of 6 B with 3428 marks and 95.5 percent. Ranjitha. K. of class 7 B is the third topper of the topper with 3414 marks and 94.8 percentage.
It is interesting to note that these students were the Vidyalaya toppers in almost all the Unit Tests and Term Tests. The Vidyalaya fraternity congratulates all these Toppers of the Toppers.

Fools' Day
1 st April every year is observed as Fools’ Day almost all over the world.
There is an interesting story narrating how April 1 st came to be celebrated as Fools’ Day. According to the story, before 1564, a common calendar was used throughout Europe. As per the calendar, 1st of April marked the beginning of each year. After some time, a new reformed calendar was adopted to obey the order of Charles IX, the then King of France. According to the new calendar, 1st January marked the beginning of each year. Some people who were reluctant to accept this change were laughed at by the others. The others considered them fools and troubled them with jokes, mock gifts, fake events and silly tricks. Since then, the practice came to be in vogue. On Fools’ Day, friends try to fool one another by way of practical jokes, like sending foolish messages and doing silly things to one another.
This day enables people to laugh and enjoy to their heart’s content. It includes practices such as sending someone on a “fool’s errand”, looking for things that don’t exist, playing pranks and trying to get people to believe ridiculous things.

WHY DO WE DO ‘NAMASTE’ ?
Indians greet each other with namaste. The two palms are placed together in front of the chest and the head bows whilst saying the word namaste. This greeting is for all - people younger than us, of our own age, those older than friends, even strangers and us.
There are five forms of formal traditional greeting enjoined in the shaastras of which namaskaram is one. This is understood as prostration but it actually refers to paying homage as we do today when we greet each other with a namaste.
Namaste could be just a casual or formal greeting, a cultural convention or an act of worship. However there is much more to it than meets the eye. In Sanskrit namah + te = namaste. It means - I bow to you - my greetings, salutations or prostration to you. Namaha can also be literally interpreted as "na ma" (not mine). It has a spiritual significance of negating or reducing one’s ego in the presence of another.
The real meeting between people is the meeting of their minds. When we greet another, we do so with namaste, which means, "may our minds meet," indicated by the folded palms placed before the chest. The bowing down of the head is a gracious form of extending friendship in love and humility.
The spiritual meaning is even deeper. The life force, the divinity, the Self or the Lord in me is the same in all. Recognizing this oneness with the meeting of the palms, we salute with head bowed the Divinity in the person we meet. That is why sometimes, we close our eyes as we do namaste to a revered person or the Lord – as if to look within. The gesture is often accompanied by words like "Ram Ram", "Jai Shri Krishna", "Namo Narayana", "Jai Siya Ram", "Om Shanti" etc - indicating the recognition of this divinity.
When we know this significance, our greeting does not remain just a superficial gesture or word but paves the way for a deeper communion with another in an atmosphere of love and respect.

NEVER WORRIED NEVER HURRIED
Stress can cause a myriad of conditions from skin disorders, stomach ulcers, high blood pressure and head-ache to nervous break downs and heart attacks.
The signs of stress can be listed as – disturbed sleep or insomnia, constant tiredness, incessant worry, over eating, irritability, lack of appetite, nausea, fainting, tendency to sweat for no obvious reasons, frequent crying or desire to cry, head-aches, frequent indigestion.
As stress is cumulative, one or many of these may erupt suddenly causing more depression. Stress symptoms can be friends’ warning us to re-examine our life style. Stress can be due to over work, being unable to meet targets, financial worries etc. There is a seven-step-strategy to combat stress.
1. TAKE ACTION : One should identify the underlying stress factors and should do something about them. The first and foremost thing to combat is regular exercise. Even after that, if the stress persists, one should pinpoint where the dissatisfaction lies. Action is far better than brooding.
2. EXPRESS YOUR FEELINGS : Avoid isolation. Try to communicate with others. Don’t bottle up your feelings. Find a way to express your anger and hostility. Talking to your friend or some other intimate one might be the answer.
3. REVIEW PRIORITIES : Stand back and take a look at your values and priorities. You may be suffering from self-inflicted wounds. Fresh vision of your priorities can clear your mind of confusion and stress. Balance work with recreation. Abandon “All work, no play” ethic.
4. ACCEPT WHAT CAN’T BE CHANGED : Seek the courage to change things that can be changed and the serenity to accept things that can’t be changed and the wisdom to know the difference.
5. PUT YOUR EXPERIENCE TO GOOD USE : Use your sufferings to become more sympathetic to others who are suffering. Sympathy for the suffering and serving them makes you immensely happy.
6. CHECK YOUR TIME MANAGEMENT : Don’t accept or set yourself unrealistic dead lines. Remember that too tight a programme for the time available is the major cause of management stress. Delegation and methodical work are the solutions.
7. COUNT YOUR BLESSINGS NOT AFFLICTIONS : Concentrate on the present. Avoid dwelling on the past events or future uncertainties.
Worry is always a potential enemy, especially when you are feeling tired, when it assails, you remember Mark Twain’s words “I have known great many troubles but most of them never happened.” Live one day at a time, you can’t change what occurred yesterday. You can make tomorrow better by living well today. To live well today one should keep smiling and be cheerful, not worried and not hurried.

HISTORY OF KOLLAPUR
Kollapur samasthan is a large area spanning most of the Nallamala forest area on the banks of river Krishna. The famous Somasila and Sangameshwara and Malleshwara temples are located in this Samasthan. It is difficult to portray the beauty of river Krishna which floats between Somasila and Sangameshwara. There are traces of architectural treasures from 2nd century BC in this samasthan. Still you can see hundreds of ancient temples, which were built 1500 years ago.
Kollapur Samasthan played a considerable role in Nizam's era. Kollapur has produced great personalities such as Miyyapuram Rama Krishna Rao, who worked as Mantri (secretary) to Raja of Kollapur. Even today people call his family members as Mantri Krishna Rao’s sons and grand sons. The planning of the town is so civic. The roads are so broad and one can wonder how neatly it was planned in those days. There is no single encroachment in this town. This is also known as Mysore of Andhra due to its beautifully planned roads. Known for education it has produced meritorious students like V. Ram Gopal Rao, a Shanti Swaroop Bhatnagar award recipient, noted film Cinematographer cum professional photographer Venkata Krishna Rao. M. hailed from this town.
A massive lift irrigation project work worth 1500 crores is going on near Kollapur. Of the tourist destinations, it is worth to watch famous SOMASILA temple, which is located just 9 km away from Kollapur. Recently long awaited bitumen road is also laid from Kollapur to Somasila.
Kollapur mangoes are world famous.
Kollapur has a Helipad and Aerodome from back in early 1900's. Kotla Venkatasubbaiah was the Deewan Bahadur during pre-independece period. Kotlas were the immigrants from Bengal/Orissa region who had come here and settled in Kollapur. They married locals of all castes. Kotla Ranganayakamma who would have been 120 years today was very prolific in Vedas and Puranas and ladies from all castes used to listen to her in the Purana Kalakshepam in the evenings. Pagidala Manoramamma , now living in Mahbubnagar was great administrator of her time.
Special Attractions: The Madhava Swamy temple at Kollapur was originally built by the Rajas of Jetprole during the 16 th century A.D. on the left bank of river Krishna, at Manchalakatta. The architecture of the temple is exceedingly beautiful.
All around the temple walls the beautifully carved sculptures depicting the 24 aspects of Vishnu and the Dasa-Avatars of Vishnu. Various pillars supporting the Mandapa, the Garudalaya add beauty to the temple complex.
Due to the submergence under the Srisailam project reservoir, this temple was shifted and transplanted at Kollapur.
Kollapur was a place of beauty, harmony and culture. The only pity is that no one cared to highlight this province.

WHY DO WE LIGHT A LAMP ?
Light symbolizes knowledge, and darkness, ignorance. The Lord is the "Knowledge Principle" (Chaitanya) who is the source, the enlivener and the illuminator of all knowledge. Hence light is worshiped as the Lord himself.
Knowledge removes ignorance just as light removes darkness. Also knowledge is a lasting inner wealth by which all outer achievement can be accomplished. Hence we light the lamp to bow down to knowledge as the greatest of all forms of wealth.
Why not light a bulb or tube light? That too would remove darkness. But the traditional oil lamp has a further spiritual significance. The oil or ghee in the lamp symbolizes our vaasanas or negative tendencies and the wick, the ego. When lit by spiritual knowledge, the vaasanas get slowly exhausted and the ego too finally perishes. The flame of a lamp always burns upwards. Similarly we should acquire such knowledge as to take us towards higher ideals.
Whilst lighting the lamp we thus pray:
Deepajyothi parabrahma
Deepa sarva tamopahaha
Deepena saadhyate saram
Sandhyaa deepo namostute
I prostrate to the dawn/dusk lamp; whose light is the Knowledge Principle (the Supreme Lord), which removes the darkness of ignorance and by which all can be achieved in life.
