My dear, dear new year
You come to us every year
And bring both smile and tear
We wish all a happy new year

People long for peace and prosperity
Eager eyes long to end poverty
Inequality and injustice breed enmity
Progress and peace promote fraternity

Leaders and officials assure eradication
Of terrorism, crime and corruption
Enforce measures to control pollution
Spread awareness and education

On that eve all have recreation
Lights and crackers add to celebration
Next day the same old practice in action
All we need is a revolution

Problems swell year after year
Hike in price multiplies fear
Unwanted disease and danger so near
Yet we wish a happy new year.
