A PAIR OF EYES

There was a blind girl who hated herself just because she's blind. She hated everyone, except her loving boyfriend. He's always there for her. She said that if she could only see the world, she would marry her.

One day, someone donated a pair of eyes to her and then she can see everything, including her boyfriend.Her boyfriend asked her, "Now that you can see the world, will you marry me?" The girl was shocked when she saw that her boyfriend is blind too, and refused to marry him.Her boyfriend walked away in tears, and later wrote a letter to her saying, “Just take care of my eyes dear.”

Why do we offer food to the Lord before eating it ?

Indians make an offering of food to the Lord and later partake of it as prasaada - a holy gift from the Lord. In our daily ritualistic worship (pooja) too we offer naivedyam (food) to the Lord.

The Lord is omnipotent and omniscient. Man is a part, while the Lord is the totality. All that we do is by His strength and knowledge alone. Hence what we receive in life as a result of our actions is really His alone. We acknowledge this through the act of offering food to Him. This is exemplified by the Hindi words "tera tujko arpan"– I offer what is Yours to You. Thereafter it is akin to His gift to us, graced by His divine touch.

Knowing this, our entire attitude to food and the act of eating changes. The food offered will naturally be pure and the best. We share what we get with others before consuming it. We do not demand, complain or criticise the quality of the food we get. We eat it with cheerful acceptance (prasaada buddhi).

Before we partake of our daily meals we first sprinkle water around the plate as an act of purification. Five morsels of food are placed on the side of the plate acknowledging the debt owed by us to the Divine forces (devta runa) for their benign grace and protection, our ancestors (pitru runa) for giving us their lineage and a family culture, the sages (rishi runa) as our religion and culture have been "realised", aintained and handed down to us by them, our fellow beings (manushya runa) who constitute society without the support of which we could not live as we do and other living beings (bhuta runa) for serving us selflessly.

Thereafter the Lord, the life force, who is also within us as the five life-giving physiological functions, is offered the food. This is done with the chant

praanaaya swaahaa, apaanaaya swaahaa, vyaanaaya swaahaa, udaanaaya swaahaa, samaanaaya swaahaa, brahmane swaahaa
After offering the food thus, it is eaten as prasaada - blessed food.

World's largest Tiger Sanctuary - Mannanur

Dry deciduous mixed forest along the river Krishna which cuts through a picturesque gorge of the Nallamala hills with deep valleys on sides. The sanctuary with a wide area of 3568 Sq. km. spanning Guntur, Prakasam, Kurnool, Mahabubnagar and Nalgonda districts. About 130 km. south of Hyderabad. TECHNOTHLON RESULTS DECLARED

Master. M.K. Surya and Master. B. Aravind Reddy of class IX cleared the Technothlon-2009 Preliminary Examinations – The National School championship conducted by Indian Institute of Technology [IIT] Guwahati on 19th July 2009 and they were selected for participation in Technothlon-2009 Mains Examination to be held at IIT Guwahati from 3rd – 6th September 2009.

Technothlon-2009 Preliminary Examinations was conducted across 70 cities in India with a huge participation from the government and public schools. 43 teams of Junior Squad and 06 teams of Hauts Squad of JNV Mahaboob Nagar took the exam and the Junior Squad Team of M.K. Surya and B. Aravind Reddy topped our Vidyalaya and were eventually selected as one of the top teams of 10 JNVs across the country.

The selected students will be participating in various technical events like Robotics, Crime Scene Investigation and Structure Building etc. they will also get to take part in lectures by Nobel Laureates; interact with Mike Finke, an astronaut of NASA who has been in space for more than an year; get to attend workshops on Robotics, Vedic Mathematics etc. and also take part in the festivities of the Techniche at IIT Guwahati.

VIDYALAYA TOPPERS – UNIT TEST NO – 2

The new season of ‘testing times’ started with the Unit Test No – 2 held in the month of July 2009. The toppers among the toppers of the previous academic year proved once again that they are invincible. The entire Vidyalaya wished to see new faces in the list of Vidyalaya toppers, but given the track record of the toppers of the bygone year, this feat remains difficult though not impossible.

As always, the performance of the lower class students was praiseworthy and the students of the higher classes did not lag behind. Initial hiccups are traced in the performance of class XI students since most of the students were admitted through lateral entry. Once they come to terms with the medium of instruction, there would be substantial improvement in the overall results both in quantity and quality.

Based on the overall performance in all the subjects the following students were adjudged the “The Toppers of the toppers.”

It is interesting to note that these students were the Vidyalaya toppers of almost all the Unit Tests and Term Tests. They remained the toppers of toppers in the final standing of the Academic Year 2008-09. The Vidyalaya fraternity congratulates them for their unremitting performance.

C.C.A. COMPETITIONS

The CCA Club of the Vidyalaya conducts various competitions to bring out the innate talents of the students. Telugu Essay Writing Competition was held on 10th July and the topics of essays were PRASAARA PRACHAARA SAADHAANAALU and GRANTHAALAYAALU for seniors and juniors respectively.

Solo Song competition was conducted on 17th July and the audience was enthralled by the melodious folk, patriotic and devotional songs. Towards the end of the competition, the judges found it very difficult to decide the winners since the margin of errors was very less.

As an initiative to develop English communication skills, a “Pick and Speak” competition was conducted on 24th July. The topics given were general and informative. The competition revealed the fact that the Vidyalaya has no dearth of talent and given proper guidance the children can achieve excellence with little efforts.

NEW BEGINNING….

The result of the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Selection Test [JNVST] held on February 08, 2009 was declared in the last week of May and 80 students were selected out of 2756 based on their performance in the Test. 76 students [49 Boys & 27 Girls] were admitted till date and the rest would be joining in the due course of the Academic Year 2009-10. These students are distributed into 2 sections and 4 Houses for Academic and Boarding purposes respectively.

The Vidyalaya also witnessed the arrival of Migrated students from Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Sri Ganga Nagar District, Rajasthan State under Migration Policy that aims at inculcating the spirit of national integration among the students of JNVs. 14 boys and 05 girls landed in the morning of 3rd July after a three-day’s tiresome journey. And to everyone’s surprise, they took not more than two days to adjust themselves to the new place.

24 students were also admitted to class XI [Science Stream] against the vacant seats, and that took the class strength to 34. These students were selected based on their performance in the class X examination irrespective of their medium of instruction. The Vidyalaya offers English, Telugu, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology and Computer Science at 10+2 level and the students are allowed to select the subjects of their choice.

The Principal, Staff, Alumni, Parents and students of JNV Mahaboob Nagar extend a warm welcome to all the newly admitted students and wish them a happy stay on the JNV Campus.

THE ROAD TO SUCCESS

What better example do you need to prove that an individual can take the name of an institution along with him to the pinnacle of glory? Meet Master. M. Pranay Kumar, the all India 8th Rank holder in the prestigious IIT- JEE examination held in the month of April 2009.

He is a precious product of this Vidyalaya.
A product worth billions.

Pranay is one of those rare few who live their dreams. The teachers in this Vidyalaya had traced marks of excellence in him the moment he stepped in. He was, and is, exceptionally brilliant, extremely polite and superlatively versatile. Though not seen much on the play field, he took active part in the curricular and co-curricular activities that helped him hone his skills. He was the topper of his class throughout his stay in this Vidyalaya. His pro-active attitude attracted many friends. He would spell magic on the audience with his awesome oratory. Above all, he remained a ‘decent disciple’ of his teachers.

As far as subjects, he liked Mathematics and Science. That was proved right with his scoring 100 out of 100 in Maths in class X Board Exams, a feat that no other student of this Vidyalaya has ever achieved. Till date he holds the highest percentage [95.6] among the class X Toppers. This stupendous performance fetched him “Pratibha Award” instituted by the Government of Andhra Pradesh. And that was the first feather in his cap.

After class X, he joined Narayana College, Dilsukh Nagar, Hyderabad for his Intermediate education. In no time, he was identified as the ‘top notch’ among meritorious students and was trained intensively by a team of experienced teachers. As a result, he scored 459 out of 470 in First Year and 495 out of 530 in the Second Year.

But, the moments of glory came when he secured All India 8th and 48th Ranks in IIT-JEE and AIEEE entrance exams respectively. Our joy knew no bounds when the news spread. It was a dream come true. At a tender age, Pranay has made his parents, teachers and his Alma Mater proud. When asked he said, “All that I am today is because of my parents, teachers and my friends. I owe them a lot. I cherish and treasure this moment for a long long time to come.”

And this is modesty at its best. And that’s how he is.

PLACES OF IMPORTANCE IN THE DISTRICT - SRI RANGAPUR

Once Krishna Deva Raya went to Sri Rangam and wanted to construct Ranganayaka Swamy temple in his kingdom. On that night he dreamt of ‘Ranganayaka’ telling him that he is in a particular place in the kingdom and one eagle will lead him to that place. Next day Krishna Deva Raya followed the eagle and found Ranganayaka Swami’s idol between Kothakota & Kanvayapally mountains. Then the temple was built near "Ratna Pushkarini’ lake. From then poojas are regularly performed and prasadam is distributed at 10 a.m. every day. Sri Rangapur is situated at a distance of 12 kms. from Wanaparthy, which is 100 kms from Mahbubnagar. Srirangapur is well connected by road and there are frequent buses from Wanaparthy. Private transport is available from Wanaparthy.

Why do we not touch papers, books and people with the feet?

To Indians, knowledge is sacred and divine. So it must be given respect at all times. Nowadays we separate subjects as sacred and secular. But in ancient India every subject - academic or spiritual was considered divine and taught by the Guru in the Gurukula.

The custom of not stepping on educational tools is a frequent reminder of the high position accorded to knowledge in Indian culture. From an early age, this wisdom fosters in us a deep reverence for books and education. This is also the reason why we worship books, vehicles and instruments once a year on Saraswathi Pooja or Ayudha Pooja day, dedicated to the Goddess of Learning. In fact, each day before starting our studies, we pray:

Saraswati namasthubhyamVarade kaama roopini Vidyaarambham karishyaami Sidhirbhavatu me sadaa

O Goddess Saraswati, the giver of Boons and fulfiller of wishes, I prostrate to You before starting my studies. May you always fulfill me?

N.C.C. CAMP

We were a part of Combined Annual Training Camp organized for the NCC cadets of 8 Andhra Battalion from 18th to 27th June 2009 at B.R.R. Degree College, Jadcherla. All the cadets were accommodated in the tents set up in a school nearby.

The camp was formally inaugurated by the Camp Commandant Colonel. Yog Raj Pathak. In his address, Col. Y. R. Pathak detailed about the different programmes and trainings that a cadet has to undergo in a camp and the use of such camps in making a cadet competent to face the demands of the 21st century. The schedule of the camp was very rather tight and every second was thoroughly utilized. The focus was mainly on training the would-be-soldiers in the area of warfare, fire fighting, trekking, rock climbing and community service. The ‘walking tour’, as a part of trekking, was the highlight of the entire camp. We went 16 kilometers on foot to a protected forest area called as Mayuri Nursery. Some of the eminent personalities paying visit to the camp included Sri. Rajeshwar Reddy, M.L.A. of Mahaboob Nagar.

To inculcate in us the value of community service, we were taken to a ‘Home for aged’, where we met many old people, heard their stories and distributed sweets to them. On the 8th day of the camp, Colonel. Narasimham visited the camp to oversee the progress. In the cultural evening organized on the same evening, he distributed the prizes to winners and lauded our performance. On the final day, a small get-together was organized and all the participants were given the participation certificates. We bid adieu to each other with a hope to meet in the next camp.
